Dr. Stacey Rae is the principal veterinarian and proud owner of Monto Veterinary Group. With a lifelong passion for animals and livestock production, Stacey believes that being a veterinarian is one of the most rewarding professions in the world.
Growing up on a large sheep and cattle property northwest of Quilpie in far south-west Queensland, Stacey developed an early love for the land and its animals. After completing her schooling in Toowoomba, Stacey ventured into the Kimberley region of Western Australia, where she spent three years jillarooing. This hands-on experience further fueled her desire to pursue a career in veterinary science, leading her to study at James Cook University in Townsville.
Stacey graduated in 2010 as part of the inaugural class of veterinary students and was awarded the Beef Cattle Prize, as well as the prestigious Australian Veterinary Association’s Don Kerr Award for academic achievement and exceptional commitment to cattle medicine.
Her career has taken her to New Zealand, Mundubbera, and a variety of veterinary clinics across western Queensland. In 2012, Stacey and her partner Mat purchased the Monto Veterinary Surgery from Dr. Ian McInnes. Since then, they have transformed the practice from a single-vet operation into a thriving business with seven vets, serving the North Burnett region through two clinics—Monto and Mundubbera.
Stacey’s special interests lie in beef cattle production and reproduction, with a focus on both bovine and equine health. She is passionate about herd health and preventative medicine, using her veterinary expertise to help beef cattle producers increase the profitability of their operations. Stacey holds PREGCHECK and BULLCHECK accreditation, is AAV export accredited, and has completed further studies in Equine Dentistry and Equine Reproduction.
As an active member of the Australian Veterinary Association, Stacey has previously held a position as a Queensland board member. She is currently serving as the President of the Australian Cattle Veterinarians (ACV) and chairs the ACV Bull Subcommittee. Stacey is also involved in Equine Veterinarians Australia, Australian Reproductive Veterinarians, and the Veterinary Business Management Group.
In addition to her veterinary practice, Stacey is the Owner/Director of Evogene, a newly established In Vitro Production Laboratory based in Brisbane, which services the Australian beef industry.
Outside of work, Stacey and Mat enjoy working cattle on their property, competing in local campdrafts, and water skiing. She is also known for her loyal Koolie x Collie dog, "Hairy," and is beloved by the MVG team for her (often too frequent) 'Dad jokes.'

Mathew Littleton grew up on a beef cattle property outside of the great little town of Crow’s Nest, Queensland. Exposed to horses, cattle, working dogs, and the family-owned transport and earthmoving business from a young age, Mat developed a strong work ethic and a deep connection to rural life. In 2002, he attended Emerald Agricultural College, where he completed a Certificate III in Beef Cattle Management, further cementing his passion for agriculture.
Mat was drawn to the far northwest of Queensland and the Northern Territory, where he spent the next six years contract mustering cattle. He would return home each wet season to Crow’s Nest to operate machinery in his family’s business. Reflecting on this time, Mat often recalls those years as some of the best of his life, shaped by adventure and hard work in the outback.
Venturing back south, Mat spent 2.5 years in Blackall working as a Real Estate and Livestock Agent for Barron Agencies. Here, he immersed himself in the livestock industry, gaining invaluable experience in breeding, backgrounding, sales, marketing, and processing of livestock. This period gave Mat a comprehensive understanding of the livestock chain and how to effectively market both livestock and property.
In time, Mat relocated to Monto with his partner, Stacey, where they purchased the Monto Veterinary Surgery. Over the past 13 years, Mat and Stacey have dedicated themselves to building and growing the Monto Veterinary Group into the successful business it is today. During this time, Mat has continued to operate an earthmoving business and a cattle backgrounding operation, embracing the challenges and rewards of running small businesses.
Outside of work, Mat has a keen interest in working dogs and enjoys competing in local Campdrafts. His diverse experiences, from livestock management to earthmoving and business ownership, have shaped him into a well-rounded, passionate individual who thrives in the rural and agricultural communities he serves.
